I’ve been able to get my Samsung ML-2525W printer to work under Debian Bookworm using the official Unified Linux Driver and also using SpliX, which is available in the Debian repositories. Both options work great and will give you a working printer and allow you to access more printer model specific settings.
Samsung ULD
HP acquired Samsung’s printer business in 2017, so you’ll need to download the ULD package from HP’s support site.
Extract the ZIP file and either run install.sh
or install-printer.sh
. Accept the EULA and answer any prompts. You’ll also need to make sure you install libcupsimage2
from the Debian repositories. You’ll now be able to add your printer through Gnome Settings, or if you previously had the printer installed but were using the generic PCL driver, you can select the Samsung ULD by editing the printer details.
SpliX
If you prefer to not use the proprietary Samsung Unified Linux Driver, you can install the printer-driver-splix
package from the Debian repositories. The libcupsimage2
package will automatically be installed as a dependency. You’ll be able to select your printer from the database when installing through Gnome Settings or by editing the printer details if previously installed.
